February 24, 2001 Monica, Psalm 37:4 (NIV) Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Have you ever wondered about this verse. Some lying voice says to your mind, "Sure, he’ll give you the desires of your heart if you become his slave. If you let him change your desires to his desires." It’s just the opposite. I believe that when you were yet in the womb, he placed desires in your heart. He created us all with a spiritual DNA since the physical reflects the spiritual. You have desires that will naturally surface as you grow. The enemy spends his time trying to pervert those desires. Elvis Presley, for example, had a God-given desire to sing and play the guitar. The devil took every opportunity to help him have the desires of his heart--in counterfeit form. I would guess that most people are born with a desire for oneness with a helper fit for him/herself. "You have a desire for oneness with a spouse," a lying demon whispers to your heart. "Go to this party; go to that dance hall; go to that bar. You will find your desire there." If you aren’t that easily led astray, he will have just the right person come to your own church and sweep you off your feet with such charm. Until after the wedding, then you slowly will learn of the counterfeit. Delight in the Lord, and he will lead you to the fulfillment of every desire he has placed in your spiritual DNA. There is a right person; there is a right vocation; there is a right circle of friends; there is a right place to live. There is a right fulfillment of your every desire, but delight in the Lord, or beware. You will end up with a counterfeit. There is an enemy prowling about who will see to that. I am not trying to give you a personal warning. I am just letting flow the thing I was meditating on a little while ago. God really will fulfill the desires that he himself placed in our spirits.
