Monica,

I made up a poster that I am sending you. See what you think of it. I don’t suppose every theologian would agree with me that the New Covenant life comes down to something so simple as just resting in Jesus and letting the River of Life flow; however, I think it really is this simple.

I believe there is a higher and simpler way to live than trying to obey written laws. Even the new covenant commandment that Jesus gave is no harder to understand than the commandment to exhale. Thou shalt exhale or thou shalt surely die.

Jesus said a new commandment he gave us (to sum up and make obsolete all other commandments): Love one another. He isn’t saying his disciples need to love one another or he will be mad at them. He is saying the flow must go on. You can’t live without love, and you can’t have love unless it flows. If you inhale love, you have to exhale love.

Love,

Dad

The poster:

I believe; therefore, I say that the following sentences all mean the same thing:

Just let the River flow!

Rest in the Sabbath.

Don’t be afraid; just believe.

Be still and know that I am God.

Freely you have received; freely give.

In other words, when he breathed into man it was up to man to breathe back out. When he loved man, man needed to love. When he gave material goods to man, man needed to give. Everything depends on keeping the flow going, and the flow is God.

Not giving stops the flow. Not trusting stops the flow.

Guilt stops the flow. (One could say guilt dams the River and damns the sinner.)
